Just to clarify: the leeway calculated by FARO uses the opposite sign compared to other electronics like B&G or Sailmon. Typically, leeway is positive when on a port tack, but in FARO, the sign convention for leeway and heel is not the same. Is that correct?
Otherwise, the COURSE in Expedition is always calculated by Expedition as CSE = HDG + LWY. So, which leeway variable should be sent to Expedition—LWY or LWYforExp? And Heel?
LEEWAY, CSE and EXP
Re: LEEWAY, CSE and EXP
Signs convention in Faro are from the old convention, where every variable is positive on starboard when acting "as expected": heeling and leeway on leeward, rudder and Tab (if present) with trailing edge on leeward. This convention was used by Okkam, B&G and Racing Bravo.
Unfortunately, this convention is not consistent with any reference axis chosen for the boat and might lead to some misunderstanding.
Lately, some software, like Expedition, started to have a more consistent approach, determining the signs of the angles based on the chosen reference axis. Hence, with X axis pointing forward, Y axis pointing right and Z axis pointing downward (aeronautical convention), roll (heel) is positive when heeling on the right and leeway is positive when pointing on the right (like heading).
In FaRo there variables that respect both conventions: Lwy and LwyForExp (which is opposite sign for Lwy), Heel and HeelForExp.
Therefore, we suggest you pass LwyForExp and HeelFor Exp to Expedition to be consistent with Expedition's signs

Re: LEEWAY, CSE and EXP
To clarify, just send to expedition HDG and LwyForExp.
Do not send CSE. Expedition will compute it using the formula Course=hdg+Leeway
